Carding for Alcohol Purchase

I was in a local grocery store with my boyfriend the other day- he was buying beer, and because I was with him at the time they requested my id as well as his. Is it legal to do this?

They can ask, you don't have to comply, and they don't have to sell it to him. Next time have him go in alone or buy it somewhere else.
