Legal Question in DUI Law in New York

DWI fine out of state

My husband was convicted of DWI in New York State. We reside in and his license is from California. He paid the initial fine assessed by the court and his New York driving privileges were suspended for 6 months. What I'm writing about is an additional assessment we received in the mail, requiring $250 per year for three years, or $750 as a one-time payment. As California residents, are we required to pay this? What happens if we don't pay it?

Re: DWI fine out of state

I have never heard of such a thing. Normally if you are convicted of DWI, you pay a one time fine and you can either go to the Drunk Driving School, or have your right to drive in the State of New York for 6 months.

Normally, if you are from out of state, you take the 6 month suspension.

Who sent you that assessment. Is it a hoax.
