is it legal?

Is it legal to place authors stories on the net for others to view and not claim them as your own? Such as Anne Rice novels.

Re: is it legal?

It is not legal to place another person's work on the net. The action is either the creation of a derivative work, being the digital version of the original, or a distribution of the original work. In either case, these are rights that are held exclusively by the copyright holder.

You could look at it another way, because technology does not change the concept of the right. If you could post the work on the net, it would also be legal for you to go to a copy machine and make copies of the work and mail them out (which, by the way, is also not legal). While the technology may be different, it is still an infringement.
