Legal Question in Entertainment Law in New York

Hello, I am a model based in New York and I have a client that owes me money from a job I have done for them from August last year. I have been booked through an agency and I have a pretty good relationship with my agency but they are not doing their job as well as they should when it comes to collecting the money, by fear of losing the client. My question is: can I take the client to small claims directly, even though I was booked through an agency?

Thank you in advance!

It would depend on the language of your contract with your agency, and the language of the contract between the agency and the job.

Nevertheless, and generally, if the contract with the job had your name to it - in other words, the job was specific to you - you should be able commence a lawsuit to enforce the contract.
