Legal Question in Entertainment Law in New York

Permission to use real towns and tv stations in story

I am writing a novel and would like to know if its allowed

to use the real names of local area towns and tv stations

in my story. Or do I have to get some kind of legal per-

mission to do so?

Re: Permission to use real towns and tv stations in story

You can, but you should be careful. If anything you write is plausably true and defamatory, it is possible that you could be hit with a defamation suit later on. Especially with respect to naming people, it is best to use fictitious names even if the person is a well known celebrity or public official.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.
