Legal Question in Family Law in New York

my ex and i have a 16yo son together who has been raised by me for the past 16 yrs. my ex lives in the state of GA his son and i reside in NY. we both agree that its best to have our sxon move to GA and finish high school and get his life together. will there be any legal restrictions ? we never had a visitation agreement through the courts. please help.

Once child is in GA for 6 months GA would be home state of child but the reality is that child is 16 years old so he can pretty much call the shots on with whom he lives. His father can bring petition for child support against you in NY once he has child with him.

You do not need to go to the Courts. You simply need an agreement between you and your ex as to the individual that has physical custody of the child.
