Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Child Support is not getting my payments

I get my child support payments taken out of my SSI, however child support is stating that they are not receiving payment. I have made a court date in which the judge told me that I need to deal with child support, child support is telling me I need to deal with SSI, and SSI is stating there must be a problem with the support collection unit. I am at a wits end. I dont know what to do or who to speak to. No one is willing to help me. I have called and written letters and no one knows anything. Brooklyn, NY

Re: Child Support is not getting my payments

Ugg. This happens all too often.

The best approach is to get a paper trail. Have SSI send you the account number or any reference numbers it has, so that you can determine where the money is being routed to. Then make sure those numbers, including the SCU routing number, all match. If they don't, then SCU needs to fix it. If they do, then hopefully SCU will be able to trace the money.

Document all letters and requests, this way in case there is a problem you have proof that the money is paid and that you are attempting to fix the mistake.

Good luck. You'll need it.
