Legal Question in Family Law in New York

common law marriage

please help.

I have been seeing this man who lives in NYC for 12 years. I live in VA. He has been helping me finanically and has been promising to marry me. He's even sent me cards saying to my wife. I use his credit cards and we had an amex together. He is a narsacist and a game player, you dose not trust. He's put me in the hospital over mental and emtional distress. He's paid my rent for the last 12 years and I know that in CA he would owe me palimony as keeping me believing that he is going to marry me and we have so many things together, but no children-thank god! He is abdoning me and after 12 years is there anything I can do? I waited for his parents to pass, his addictions to pass, and now I have nothing and am in distress.

Would you please see if there is anything I can do. He has also used my social security # to buy stock without my knowledge and works on wall street. He's a money hungry, angry, and bitter is describing him softly.

I have records of him paying for things for up to 12 years and yes I have helped. He makes a lot more money then I do and I also believe he is hording it somewhere illegally. I have health issues where he is mainly the cause. Please help me, I know there is something I can do. Thank you

Re: common law marriage

I would doubt that under the circumstances which you've described that you would have any remedy in the Commonwealth of Virginia of which to avail yourself in this situation.

However, in New York, the applicable laws could be different and, perhaps, a New York attorney will come forward to opine upon this matter.
