Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Custody

I Have had contact with a guy for awhile and he would like to give me full custody of his 4 week old daughter. They reside in Afica, and I live here in New York. I have gained trust in over the course of a few weeks. He said that he has been to a lawyer and had drawn up all legal paperwork that I will need. He will be flying her on a plane with a private arrangement. I need to know if this paperwork will be accepted here and him transferring custody to my name does now give me any rights to this child? He says that I don't need an attorney or lawyer since he has done everything. please tell me how to go about with this situation

Re: Custody

It would be extremely foolish to not have your own qualified family law attorney review all the paperwork prior to meeting this man or the child. While you may very much want to help children or adopt the child, you know nothing of the situation other than what this individual has represented to you.

While the situation could be exactly what has been described to you, entirely benign, without careful investigation and appropriate legal review, you could find yourself in the middle of anything from an abduction to child slavery.

Contact a qualified family law attorney in your area immediately (and before making any payment to this individual, even if the payment is simply to cover "expenses.")
