Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Divorce

Me and my husband have been married for 1 year. He started a legal claim for the death of his son before we got married. He is now getting the settlement for $50,000. If we are to divorce am I entitled to any of the money he receives for this while we are married? also, if we divorce do I get half of whatever he had bought while married? Thank You

Re: Divorce

you are not entitled to any monies regarding the death of his son because it happened before your marriage and it otherwise would be exempt as it is peculiar to him and not to you or the marriage.

you would be entitled to equitable distribultion - which means usually 50% of what whas acquired during marriage.
