Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Divorce Law- Child support Spousal Support?

Over two years trying to get divorced from husband who left me in 2006 with three children (8, 6, and 1-year old) and moved in with apparently his girlfriend. He owns his own business and claims to make only 25K now and refuses to give me the court ordered child support for the last 6 mos.

Question: My current attorney (2nd one) re-filed a contempt motion- I am out of money- if she drops me what are my options? I have three kids and no family to help me- I have not worked since my oldest was born and was blessed that he earned enough--name removed--I could. I have to finish school to qualify for a job that would pay enough for childcare. Are there any resources in NY that would help me- I have very little money left for food/ bare essential and will run out in approx two months and fear becoming homeless with three kids- Please send me resourses.

My current attorney- can she drop me if I dont have more money for retainer?

You might try Catholic Charities and the QUeens County Bar Association has a pro bono panel. Many churches in the area are willing to help out with either money for a lawyer or a parishioner who is a lawyer and will help.

CUNY Law School in Flushing NY has a clinic program for law students which is highly regarded you get a team of student lawyers that are supervised by a professor. The work they do is excellent. Hofstra Law School has a similar program but may be confined to Long Island.

You may contact me for more information if you would like to.

Good Luck.
