Re: divorce

your wife should prove that she gave you this money as a loan and that you obligated to pay it back. In any case - this alone will not preclude you from divorcing your wife.

Re: divorce

If your wife is attempting to obtain a green card through a fraudulent marriage, she can be deported. Make sure she knows that before she continues to go after you for money. No matter what, you must retain a lawyer to protect your rights... there may be other issues you are unaware of, and you may be facing problems relating to complicity in the sham marriage. By the way, my law firm is not expensive at all.

Re: divorce

Since you are married less than a year and the marriage was for legal residency, etc. you may have grounds for an anullment (never married).

This can be accomplished "on papers" if you have the coroborating evidence.

I have been succesful in accomplishing this.

You can petition the court to proceed as a poor person and ask for a pro bono attorney. Contact their Pro Bono office at the court house. They all have one and ask how to proceed as a poor person.

Good Luck
