Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I filed a temporary order of protection against my husband in an emotional heat of the moment and I do not want to proceed. It says the court will proceed by inquest and enter a default judgment should I fail to appear , what does that mean?

You should check that language out. If you filed it, and default, the case is dismissed.

If he defaults and doesn't appear, an inquest is a 'one-sided' trial against him.
