Legal Question in Family Law in New York

How can I find out when the judge issued the order?

My husband's ex-wife had their child adopted. When we received notice from her attorney that the whole file, including the order of adoption, had been filed, we assumed this was the end. We stopped paying child support. She filed at CSE for missing child support, claiming the paperwork wasn't final. Her attorney won't answer our questions. I need to find out who the judge was and when he signed the order of adoption, since now we're asked to continue paying support for a child who has already been adopted. With that info, I'd be able to stop the payment order DFCS has sent to my husband's employer. Thanks!

The easiest way is to go o the courthouse and ask the clerks for assistance. They will usually be very helpful.

Sorry, but I'm not sure if you are in NY or GA (I practice in both) since both are listed. Either way, the clerk of the proper court should have the answers for you. You probably should start by having a lawyer review the previous documents that you received and then follow up with the clerk. This doesn't sound too difficult to figure out, but getting the right paperwork from the court can be a hassle.

Call me if you would like to set up a time to discuss this further. (404)355-5221.

It should be a public record in the Couty where the adoption took place. Go to the Surrogate's Court of the County and to its records room, reuqest a copy of the file. The Judge's order, if signed, should be included in the file.
