Legal Question in Family Law in New York

find a lawyer

I have misplaced my divorce decree/judgement and I am trying to find the lawyer who did the divorce to get another copy. However he was my ex-husband's lawyer and although I have his name I have been unable to find him and I don't want to call my exhusband. Is there some kind of directory I can use to locate him or is there any other way to get another copy of my divorce judgement?

Re: find a lawyer

You can get a certified copy of your divorce judgment by going to the Clerk's Office in the courthouse where you case was handled. You can find the attorneys info by going to www.nycourts.gov and clicking on the "attorneys" tab and then going to the directory.

Re: find a lawyer

This is a simple problem with 2 easy answers.

1) Go to the courthouse in the county where the divorce was issued and request a copy. It may be possible to do this by mail or internet.

2) A second is to go to 'unified court system new york' and look up the lawyer's address. It is listed in the attorney directory.
