Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I am looking to hire an attorney for my divorce. The case is currently being held at the Bronx Supreme Court. We can basically both agree that the only real issue of contention is our marital residence. We have come to an agreement on grounds; we have no children of the marriage; and we agree there is to be no maintenance. However, I cannot afford an attorney at this time and I was wondering about the pendente lite motion for temporary attorney's fees.

What I'm wondering is: Do I need an attorney prior to filing for this motion? Does anyone on here know of an attorney that will do a flat fee for a contested divorce in NYC? If not, I am really just looking for an affordable attorney overall. Thank you.

I don't know any attorneys who would attempt a contested divorce on a flat fee - you simply can't tell what you're getting into. It's also hard to understand why the marital residence would be an issue of contention - the rules are pretty precise on how that would be handled in equitable distribution.

It's technically possible to file a pendente lite motion without an attorney. But it's not easy, and it's not advisable.
