My husband has a great deal of debt due to health problems. If he were to die would I be legally responsible for those debts?

Mr. Wade is incorrect.
A spouse is legally responsible for the necessities of the other spouse. This is normally true of health related issues. See, Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hosp., Inc. v. Frey
152 A.D.2d 73, 548 N.Y.S.2d 109 (1989).
