Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I live in NY and have joint custody of my daughter with my ex boyfriend. I have been offered a job in PA and would like to accept it. She is 5 and I would like to enroll her in Kindergarten in PA. I dont want to keep her from her dad, this is just best for both of us. Do I need my ex's consent to move or how to I go about this?

You need to file a petition in the family court for relocation. If you move to PA and accept a job there and then your ex files for custody or visitation in NY you may be forced to move back to NY until the case is decided. I would recommend filing the petition now since the court system moves slowly and you want to get it into court right away. I would be happy to assist you with this matter.
