Legal Question in Family Law in New York

i got married 6/29/09 in vermont... i found out that my husband was still married to his 1st wife in new york... and their divorce was not final until 9/27/11... i called a lawyer and they told me that it was a voided marriage and had no grounds for court and to call the department of health... so i did... they told me they could not do anything and i have to go to court.... i dont know what to do......
