remarriage after divorce

IN New York, after a speedy divorce,, if my ex remarries, does that automatically stop child support payments, or any other legal obligations to a minor child?

Of course not. The child hasn't got a new father. Child support continues until emancipation or the age of majority.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.

Re: remarriage after divorce

No. Child spport is a right of the child, not of the parent. The obligation to provide support is independent of of whether your "ex" remains single or subsequently remarries. The most common basis for a change in child support obligations rests upon a significant change in financial circumstances of either or both parents of the child, or the emancipation of the child or children.
