Legal Question in Family Law in New York

separated legally

My husband and I have filed separation papers with the county clerk. For insurance purposes my husband states his company does not cover legally separeted spouces. I was told you are not legally separated until a year has lapsed. Is this correct?

Your husband is wrong. You can remain on your spouses insurance until you are divorced. Thereafter, you can purchase the insurance on your own ( throught COBRA)
