abandon property

i have several motorcycle parts left at my shop this is NOT a business more of a co-op we get together and work on our bikes, this person by word of mouth found me said he'd like to build his bike with us i said great the next week he dropped off several parts including a motor i have not seen hide nor hair of him since i want this stuff out i have no way of contacting him no phone # not even a last name what are my legal responsibilities in this thanks

Re: abandon property

You do not have to hold the property indefinitely. You should contact this fellow - if possible. If not, an individual that wants to sue to recover property is 3 years (NY CPLR 214). Therefore, if you want to be safe, wait over 3 years from date of delivery and then junk the parts.
