Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Accident

I was in a car accident using a friends vehicle, No one was involved, just myself. The estmate for repairs are just over $400. Which I have NO problem paying. Problem.. I recently received a letter stating I'm being sued for the total value of the car, value according to the the Kelly Blue Book. Can I be sued for the that amount or I'm I just responsible for the repairs? No Insurance is involved.
