Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Cable TV Theft

I recently received a letter from cablevision. The received my name off a mailing list, from a company which they recently busted. Cablevision is aware that I bought an illegal decoder. They also are aware I never used it. I spoke with the head of Special Services at Cablevision. He listened to my story, and was actually rather polite.(something I did not expect after hearing other horror stories from friends in similiar situations) He told me he would be getting back to me. I have not heard from him yet. I am very confident on my position, as well as my ''story.'' My question, should I just wait it out until he calls, continue to call him and hound him, or get myself a good lawyer. Thanks so much for all your time.

Re: Cable TV Theft

I'm a former Assistant District Attorney who prosecuted on Long Island and I have some familiarty with this issue. First things first. Don't talk to anybody else about this matter. Everything you say could be:(1)used against you in the future, or (2)recorded and used against you in the future. Your desire to "do the right thing" may incriminate you. It's a waiting game now to see what they want to do. Contact me if they (Cablevision), or the police department contacts you. I can be reached at (212)867-4751.
