Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

car ownwrship

My ex-husband was buying a car from me. I licensed it and insured it and was keeping it in my name until it was paid off. He defaulted on the payments and now refuses to surrender the tags to me. I have also recently found out that his licence has since been suspended. Aside from reporting the car stolen, what can I do to get my name off the car completely?

Re: car ownwrship

The car is not stolen, you gave it to him to use.

BTW, since the car is in your name, if he gets in an accident and seriously hurts someone you will be sued.

Have it towed BUT let the police know the day that you do it, then sell it.

If he comes and takes it back without your permission, call the police.
