Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

My cousin is 19 and this past week her parents kicked her out of the house. All she wants to do is get her stuff but they wont let her. she bought all her clothes but her father said since she doesnt have reciepts he will just tell the police that they bought them all. Is there any way she can get her clothes and books and everything for school without having to go to court?

Tell her to go into her local precinct and file a complaint. They have in essence performed an illegal eviction. Tell her to tell the police just that and ask for a police officer to accompany her to the house for her safety and to retrieve her belongings. Then she needs to go to the Civil Court -Housing part and speak to the pro-se attorney who can tell her what her rights are and what she can do about it.
