Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

grounds for a lawsuit

While visiting an inmate in a New York Correctional Facility i was assaulted by said inmate. Is there any course

of action i can take such as a lawsuit? If so how long do i have to file said lawsuit and against whom?
