Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

neighbor dispute, threats,

I had no idea when I purchased my house that the neighbor was the seller's nephew and a convicted felon. Mediation has been unsuccessful in communicating that as the present owner, I am not obligated to allow this person and his friends on my property. I recently filed two additional trespass charges. When this started in Jan. 1999, the police advocated community policing to solve this problem. Now, they've begun making arrests (under age drinking) and this neighbor is so angry he's told a third party he plans to hire a hit man to get rid of me. I do have a videotape from July 2000 of one individual saying ''I don't know where you're from, but around here people get shot.'' What should I be doing to protect myself?

Re: neighbor dispute, threats,

It is indeed an unfrotunate situation. Keep the authorities updated...and perhaps, as an extreme measure, put your house on the market for "personal reasons"

Good Luck
