Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

NY CLS Law 11-105 for an incident on 7/23/09. I paid $170 at the first request on 9/18/09. I received a letter in August asking for $270! Is this legal? particularly after nearly a year has gone by since I made a payment in full last September!
