Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

phone might be taped

i beleive my phone could be monitored by spiteful inlawwith help of unscrupulous private investigator as to put me out of business, have had statements from customers notifying me of calls from this individual informing them that i do not know what i am doing and there furniture will probably be ruined if i do it. i have 20 + years experience in upholstery and all my customers adore my work. lately the response from them at the end of the job is: ''this is beautiful work,i don't care what some stranger has said''.I knowi could press charges and have him arrested but this is my father inlaw the rest of my inlaws hate me and would hold an arrest over my head forever.Iwas rised to turn the other cheek, but my customers deserve a smooth and relaxed transformation from old to new, what do i do ?

Re: phone might be taped

I have no brilliant answers for you. The law is a crude tool. It is used after people have already decided they cannot work it out between themselves and it is worth more than the relationship.

If other things are more valuable to you, then I am not your answer. You have my respect.

If you know which 'in-law' is pursuing this destructive measure, then you have an action against the private investigator as well as the in-law. You can narrow your conflict by proceeding only against the private investigator.
