Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

can i publicly notify of judgements due?

I received a judgement over a year ago. The party refuses to pay or acknowledge letters and calls. The amount is too small for a collection service. We can't afford an attorney. I would like to put a notice of this owed debt in the local public paper. Simply stated that he owes this debt and refuses to pay. This may affect his employment and push him to pay up. He's a contractor and this settlement stems from work he didn't do or do properly. My husband is concerned this would be harrassment. I would not say anything untrue or malicious. We've trie private ways. Certified letters etc. He even ignored a sopeonea for info on assets, from the court. The court has been no help. Is this harrassment? After all if he'd pay me I'd leave him alone.

Re: Bring action on judgment

just go to court to enforce the judgment.

This time all you have to prove is the judgment and that it hasn't been paid.

You get statutory interest.

If you know where his bank is, you can serve a restraining notice on the bank and then send the sherriff to seize the money. If you don't know where he banks, you can serve him with an information subpoena. You can get these various forms at a legal stationary store.
