Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Reimbursement of unused summer rental

I had a verbal agreement with two other parties to take a share in a summer house this year. The verbal agreement included two holidays. While the other parties sought other shares, they gave away one of the holiday weekends that I was supposed to get. When I voiced my disappointment about that, they suggested that I could get out of the house, to which I agreed. To this point I have not received any of the payments I made to them ($3300), even though I am no longer in the house. Most recently they offered to refund only $1500, since they were unable to fill the shares that became available due to my leaving their house (upon their suggestion)

What is the best way to recoup my full expenses. I have copies of the checks I sent and feel I have a right to a full refund, since they violated our verbal agreement by giving away my holiday weekend and also suggested that i remove myself from the house
