They either may opt to jointly or severally reply the complaint. It is upto them.

They can file one Answer if they are being represented by the same attorney and there is no conflict between the defendants. They can elect to file seperate answers even if they are represented by the same attorney. Of course if they are unrepresented then they each file seperate Answers or seperate Answers if they each have their own attorney..
