is there a law that will protect a surveyor from getting a ticket for tresspassing while on the job?

If you're a private surveyor not affiliated with the government and your employer/client does not have a legal right to get onto that property, then you should seek permission from the landowner before going on to their property. If they refuse, then you would need a court order.
