Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

US Citizenship

I currently work and live in the US, am a Indian citizen, have a green card, will be eligible for US citizenship in Aug 2009. I am planning to change employers and live and work in the UAE from Jan 2009. Will this be a problem in terms of getting US citizenship?

Re: US Citizenship

You need to be a resident living in the US in order to be eligible to apply for citizenship. Further, you will need to demonstrate that you have lived more than 1/2 the time in the US since becoming an LPR. Thus, taking a job overseas may have an effect on your eligiblity to apply for citizenship. Similarly, if you remain outside of the US for an extended period of time, then it may even affect your status as a permanent resident.
