Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

I am a full time student, with a F1 visa. But I plan to take a semester offl, because my college is getting expensive, but which happens to be illegal. Can I instead take program or other classes outside the college and stay in status?

Only if you transfer to another cheaper college and receive a I-20 form from them.

When you were granted the F1 visa to study in the US it was based on the information provided by the college.

However, if you drop out of the program, the college as you know, must inform immigration.

This means after 10 days you will become illegal even if you are taking another cheaper course.

In other words, you cannot stay in status if you are not a student with the college for which you obtained the F1 visa.
