Can I use photos of famous paintings (paintings that are over 75 years old) to produce items to sell? If I purshase a print of the artwork and photo it myself?

Unfortunately, your question cannot be answered as it will depend on a variety of factors (e.g., published or unpublished, date of author's death, if applicable, whether or not renewed, etc.). You should select a variety of paintings of varying vintage and then consult a copyright attorney.
