Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New York

If I have an idea for a product but I will need to run a few tests using university equipment to verify the effectiveness of my product, is the university able to say my product was developed there and they own it? Who keeps ownership as well as whatever profits are made once the product is manufactured? Thank you
