How to check ownership of a foreign company? i'm considering to buy a swiss company but not sure the seller is the legal owner.

I think you have a boat load of legal considerations here and will likely require counsel in both the US and Switzerland. I would say at a min you need to conduct proper due diligence on the firm and that will need to be done there.
