There are federal and state laws that prohibit retaliation by employers against employees in the event the employee files a formal or informal complaint alleging a violation of federal or state law.

Employers who retaliate against employees may be subject to punitive damages, which often exceed actual damages.

As a matter of course, employers are less likely to retaliate against employees represented by counsel. If you believe you have been retaliated against or if you would like to file a complaint but fear employer retaliation, I would recommend that you speak with an attorney.

Good luck!
