Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

unpaid wages

My employer refuses to pay me, because i was un able to make it in to work one day because my vehicle was towed he states that i owe him for that day. We never had a contract i would cover is office when he needed me and i was available. I went out of town the week after, when he called i let him know this. My husband and i had to move i then let him know this and that i would not be able to continue working for him. I tried to call to get my pay and he didn't return my calls. I went into the office on the 24th of october and thats when he tells me that he will not be paying me.

Re: unpaid wages

Assuming you were an actual employee, you could file a complaint with the New York State Department of Labor, which could hold him responsible for triple your pay or you could file suit in Small Claims Court in New York for up to $5000 in NYC and most villages. Considering the facts as you described them, Small Claims court is probably your best bet. Good luck!
