Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

former landlod

My former landlord has a house I was renting from with my brother, I am disabled onSSD, my brother works. We rented the upstairs part of the house, and the landlady had her furniture where we were upstairs, and promised to move it,a year went by and she never did. My room had her mattress, soI slept on it, and when we moved out, she said because I slept on it, I owed her 300.00. As A NICE PERSON, i GAVE HER 100.00, andtold her because I am on a fixed income, I would have to pay the balance a little at a time, nowshe is calling me with legal threats. My brother says because she never moved her furniture our as she promised, I am under no obligation to her. Can you advise, as she has mt number and calls me all the time with threats. Thank you.

Re: former landlod

Do not pay her another cent and tell her if she continues to call you, you will sue her for harrassment.

When you rent a space, you rent the entire space and she has no right to leave her personal belongings there.

Let her take you to small claims court for the balance.
