Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Landlord re negs on oral agreement.

I have been renting this house for going on tree years. When I first moved here I put $12,000.00 into this house with the understanding that I could live here for a very long time. This was a verbal agreement. The repairs that need to be taken care of are problems that were already here when I moved in. The main entrance door is a makeshift door made of plywood and is hollow. I cannot use the back patio doors at all. On the property is a junk car, two broken down wood sheds filled with garbage. A boat anchor that I cannot move. A broken ceramic barbaque. The broken pieces of ceramic are all over the yard. The house is being held up with bricks and wood. These are not the only problems. They are too many to list. I finally told them that I would not pay any more rent until the rpairs are done. My landlords have plenty of money. I have paid $30,000.00 so far in rent. The house has been paid for for a long time. I know they cannot raise the rent just because I asked for a repair, but can they sell the house from under me just because I asked for a repair? I redid the whole inside of this house. I have asked them to do about $1000 in repairs. They have announced that ''they are forced to sell''. Can I get some of my money back?

They are entitled to sell, you may be able to recoup your expenses, or at the very least a reasonable fee for the services you provided in improving the landlord's property.
