Landlord Tennant Laws

from February 2007 to August 2008 I lived with my girlfriend in HER apartment (her lease). On August 10, 2008 she threw me out and is holding all of my belongings randsom for money she believes is owed to her. Can she legally do this? If not, what recourse do I have ro retrieve my belongings?

No she cannot. Call the police and press criminal charges against her. She is a theif. If she wants the $ she has to sue u.

As an alternative to Jason's suggestion, and in case the police will say "this is a civil matter", which they sometimes tend to do, make a list of the clothing she took. Go out and find the replacement cost for your clothes. If the replacement value is under $5,000, sue her in small claims for the value of the clothes that she "converted".
