Leased (Illegal) Apartment
I have a year lease, ends in Apr. 09. I have asked the landlord if I could break the lease in January. LL said no. The apartment is illegal, does this give me basis to break the lease. I pay monthly and LL has one month security

If the apartment is illegal than you have no lease to break. You may leave at any time. Furthermore, the Court will not enforce your obligations under the lease to pay rent.
