How can I stay if theyhave me as a holdover tenant

Long Story short.I live in Nassau county NY. Was on hard times now have a really good job. am 3 months behind inmy rent landlord refused check from DSS. I now am a holdover tenant. went back to dss tonight they said they would still give me the money to give my landlord if she goes back tocourt to say i can stay. i have the may rent so that is not a problem. i however cant seem to find an affordable apt and would rather stay. how come the judge did not force the landlord to take the money ? i have till may 31 to get out how can i get longer?need someone who will work out a payment plan with me
