Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Sub-lease

I signed an agreement to sublease an apartment with 10 months left on the lease, I have paid rent for two months, I moved all my stuff out on the 11th of September and dropped off my keys and a note to landlord. Is this agreement legal, binding me to pay the rest of the lease? In Syracuse New York.

Re: Sub-lease

It's binding but your leasor must mitigate his damages, so it is unlikely that he will be able to hold you likely for the full term of the lease, unless he can show that despte reasonable attempts he was not able to re-lease the property during the term of your agreement.
