Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

1979 Law suit unresolved - attorney refuses to contact

I have a case pending from 1979 whereby the Fire department hit the city bus while I was a passenger. I had one attorney who was a criminal lawyer. I learned that he was brought up on charges and disbarred for a while, and so he gave my case to a large law firm. the lawfirm in turn contacted me in 1996 via a private investigator. I was certain that things were going forward at that time. I came to their office(at my expense) and they said nothing had been done but that they would settle out of court because the case was so old and it was considered soft tissue only, although I have permanent damage from that accident, they said that it is not reflected in the original case. I have wrote them numerous times and they refuse to let me know what if anything is being done. Do I have a legal case against the attorney for failing to represent me? To whom should I report this rude and unprofessional behavior to?

Thank you.

It sounds like you have not been well served. However, I cannot imagine getting involved in a 25 year old "soft tissue" injury case, and can't imagine what sane lawyer would choose to do so. Moreover, it is not clear from your post whether the case is in Georgia or New York.
