Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

I was involve in an accident back in 1996 with MTA bus, the driver had a suspended license and my car was wrecked, he left the scene of the accident, i went through therapy for about a year, there after r years i ended up with severe pain like migraine on a regular, stiff neck, back problem, i cant do much with my back, I have never heard from the attorney, about 5 years ago i called them they said the case was in court, they stop writing to me, than i tried to contact the attorney, they have moved and number was changed so i had to google search for the name, they are still operating in brooklyn New York, I never got a decision or any answer regarding the case, since it has been so long what can be done legally or what step can i take, regarding either the attorney or MTA.
