Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

I punched ex-friend in jaw on my property

He came over to 'fight' me, but instead showed up demanding money and saying terrible things. I, in turn, punched him in the jaw, he's in a lot of pain. He called the police, nothing came yet... Am I responsible for all damages (broken glasses/ missed work)?

It depends on the circumstances and series of events. You may be. Much depends on what happened when and how much time went by between events.
